   Thank you Ohma. I am hoping my replacement Dell will come soon and I will not have to deal with this computer for long. I would use the McAfee Disk I have, but it is for the Dell and bought from Dell.

      Michael I have always used AVG free with my XP laptop. It runs fine.
      Make sure you downloaded the right one though, you know how lousy their layout is, easy to get wrong.
      From time to time I have had problems with versions of AVG but usually the download was the problem. Download it again and it installed OK. I just wanted to let you know it should work in XP.

      Hi Michael, AVG has always worked with Windows XP.
      If you're having problems with it, try getting Avira or Avast, both of these are also free and just as good!
      I normally alternate the 3 of them.

      You need to download the service pack 2 update for windows, its a pain I know, I had this problem a few weeks ago, type service pack 2 update for windows xp on google and it will take you to the windows update page

How to Remove AVG?

There are two official tools available for the complete removal of the AVG products.

1. Uninstall using AVG Clear tool

• Download the AVG Removal tool / Clear tool from the above given link.
• Boot your computer in safe mode.
• Double-click on downloaded avgclear.exe file and click on ‘install anyway‘ if it asks. The avgclear.exe will start the uninstaller and you’ll appear a process bar flash screen.
