Nx 8e Programming Manual

Has anyone had any success in connecting a Caddx NX-8E to a PC. The NX-8E has a 10 pin header on its main board. On the panel end, I'm using a Caddx P-0003 cable. This cable is designed to attach to that 10 pin header and then provide a 9 pin serial connector for the PC. I'm also using a gender changer and standard serial cable. Do I also need to use a null modem?
The P-0003 cable came with no instructions or advice.

Update ... I tried a null modem and still had trouble using the DL900 software with the serial cable to program the panel.
From the LED Keypad I set:
LOCATION 207 - SERIAL PORT SELECTOR to '1' = NX584 enabled
LOCATION 208 - BAUD RATE TABLE to '2' = 9600 Baud (9.6K) - same as setting on laptop
LOCATION 209 - PROGRAMMING THE NX-8E HOME AUTOMATION PROTOCOL - tried both LED 0ff = Binary and LED On = ASCII
However, I did have some success. I downloaded a 30-day trial of Premise Home Control and was able to download data for the control panel to my laptop. I was not able to program it. Kept getting an error message stating that I entered an incorrect master password for the alarm control panel.
I'm guessing that you may need a NX-586 or NX-586E to program the board via direct connection. Before I purchase this, I may try HomeSeer. Looks like they have a third party plug-in to program the control panel via the 10-pin header on its main board.

Got the NX8E board to talk with the DL-900 software today using the P-0003 cable, gender changer, standard serial cable and null modem. The P-0003 cable was connected to the serial header so that its connector is plugged into the NX8E board with the Red Edge of the ribbon cable (pin 1) is towards the bottom of the board.
Using the LED Keypad to program the panel 1st, I set the following to:
Location 207 segment 1 to '1'
Location 208 to whatever the baud rate on the terminal port is (Mine was '2' for 9600)
Location 209 segment 1 to ASCII
Location 210 segment 2 data 1 & 2 enable
Location 211 segment 1 - data 2, 5, 6, 7
Location 211 segment 2 - data 1
Location 211 segment 3 - data 1, 2
Location 211 segment 4 - 6, 7, 8
Also make sure you hit the star key after you enter a value from the keypad and make sure you enter 'device 0' before you go to any locations.

I would love to learn how to program this panel. The manual that came with it is advanced and for experienced installers.

GBirk,
I'm catching up slowly, my new NX8-E board is working fine, and the NX8 probably works fine too!
Here is what I have, I found a 10 pin to d-sub connector in my boxes of junk, what luck. I then used 2 D-Sub breakout boards to give me my config.
I'll try to post some pics...
I have some reservations about the need for a null modem cable...I've heard a lot of advice on this and from my setup I dont think its needed...reasoning is this. My PC is a DTE device and the Panel a DCE device. As far as I know a straight through cable is all thats needed...

Hooray! I got the DL900 to talk to the nx8e, here goes
a) I followed gbirk's LED panel setup (even though I'm using homeseer)
b) I'm using a straight thru cable config (pins 2-3, 4-6 and 7-8 are not crossed)
c) my port settings in win XP are 9600,8,n,1 with hardware handshaking.
d) knew I was close when DL900 told me I had the wrong panel entered (NX8)
If your trying to do this with Caddx and DL900, purchase a RS232 mini tester from Radi Shack, your LEDs should look like below, TD and RD green, RTS and CTS red, DTR also red.
I'm now moving onto the HomeSeer Caddx Plugin...If anyone is/has trying/tried let me know.

foraye,
Very impressive ... I think you'll find that it is a lot easier to use DL-900 software than programming the unit from the key pad.
